The City of Enderby is seeking a Utility Worker to join its Public Works team. This job will involve general duties as well as operating the community water and wastewater systems.
The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, obtained an EOCP Level I certification in at least one of the four fields of practice, and have relevant field experience. The candidates should have familiarity in water treatment and distribution and wastewater treatment and collection. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with air endorsement is required; however, consideration will be given to candidates who are otherwise qualified provided they achieve their endorsement within 3 months. Preference will also be given to candidates who have Confined Space and Chlorine Handling certificates.
The ability to work safely, with others and around the public is required. The ability to perform physical labour, including lifting, shovelling and climbing, is required. The successful candidate will possess strong critical and analytical thinking abilities, strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Other Public Works experience, heavy equipment operation, and computer skills would be an asset.
As this position will have on-call duties on a rotational basis after approximately three months of service, the successful candidate will be required to live near to the community to fulfill those responsibilities. After the training period has been completed, weekend shifts will be required. As part of departmental integration, this position may also be cross-trained on and work as part of the Parks and Recreation Department as needed.
The wage rate starts at $26.01 plus certification premiums and benefits, with opportunities for growth commensurate with training and experience.
