Due to an upcoming retirement, the City of Enderby is seeking a Utility Worker to join its Public Works team.
Preference will be given to applicants who are strong team players with demonstrated experience at equipment operation, particularly excavation equipment.
The ability to work safely, with others and around the public, is required. The ability to perform physical labour, including lifting, shovelling and climbing, is required. Work in confined spaces is required.
This job will involve general duties such as snow plowing, road maintenance, and maintaining various City properties. The successful candidate will possess excellent problem-solving abilities, an attention to detail, a strong work ethic, the ability to multi-task and work under pressure, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Prior public works or civil general contracting experience would be an asset.
Over time, the successful applicant will be trained on how to operate drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities. New learning opportunities and certification premiums are available. An aptitude for math, science and computers would be beneficial.
Once trained, this position will have rotating on-call duties, including weekend work, approximately every 4 to 5 weeks. The successful candidate will be required to live near to the community to respond.
This position may be cross-trained to work in the Parks Department as needed.
The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12 or equivalent. A valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License is preferred, but a Class 5 BC Driver’s License with air endorsement is acceptable.
Per the collective agreement, the wage rate starts at $29.91 and includes a competitive benefits and pension package as well as certification premiums and opportunities for growth and advancement.
