BC Hydro has announced a community-wide power outage on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 8am until 2pm.
During this time, a number of the City’s critical facilities will be affected, including drinking water and sewer. We will be implementing a response plan to ensure that critical water and sewer components continue to function during the outage in order to maintain the supply and storage of treated drinking water and the processing of sanitary sewer flows.
Two things that will have a localized impact upon services is high water demand during the outage and rainy weather. Either of these scenarios may require us to reprioritize and redeploy a mobile back-up power system to another location to manage through a water or sewer demand peak, which may diminish or interrupt water service to certain neighbourhoods.
During the outage, please restrict your use of water to essential uses only, as this will help us to maintain service throughout the community.
During the outage, the City will be providing a *temporary* number for public works emergency purposes only, via our sewer treatment plant. For public works emergencies, call 250-838-0785 and leave a voicemail. Your message will be automatically transcribed and sent to our response team. As the priority will be responding to public works emergencies and maintaining the critical components of our water and sewer systems, general information inquiries about the outage, questions regarding non-City facilities, or inquiries not requiring an immediate response will not be returned until later. This number will only be available for this purpose during the outage. Please only use it for public works emergencies so that it is kept clear for those who may need it.
We encourage you to follow BC Hydro’s steps to prepare for an outage.
