After having to cancel part of its season due to a problem with its chiller, the Enderby Memorial Arena and Curling Rink is enjoying a bit of good news.
After a successful pressure test of the chiller, which is what cools the floor of the arena and curling rink so that water can be frozen for the ice-making process, the refrigeration contractor has determined that the chiller can be temporarily repaired. This will enable the Arena and Curling Rink to resume operations in a matter of weeks, rather than have to wait up to 14 weeks for a new chiller to be manufactured, shipped, and installed.
In terms of the length of the interruption, this is the best case scenario given the circumstances. A new chiller will be ordered and installed after the ice season concludes. Staff will proceed with an accelerated effort to get the ice established and ready for the community to enjoy.
The first date that the Arena will be open is October 6, 2014. The Curling Rink will open shortly thereafter.
