Council for City of Enderby has declared July 21st – 27th as National Drowning Prevention Week in Enderby.
National Drowning Prevention Week is a public education initiative by the Lifesaving Society with events taking place across the country to focus attention on drowning prevention. This year’s theme is Demonstrate, Connect Share – We do better together!
Every day of National Drowning Prevention Week at the Enderby Pool, a variety of lifesaving activities will be hosted by Enderby & District Recreation Services.
Itinerary
Every Public Swim at the Enderby Pool – anyone can take part in the “Swim to Survive Challenge” and earn their certificate and tattoo. All participants will also have their name entered in a draw to win a Month Swim Pass for August at the Pool.
Monday July 22nd – Swim to Survive Challenge in all swim lessons
Tuesday July 23rd – Ladder Approach Rescue Demo at Enderby Pool @ 3pm
Wednesday July 24th – Boating Safety Equipment Demo – at Enderby Pool @ 1:45pm
Wednesday July 24th – Lifejacket fitting and demo of all things needed when floating the River – at Visitor Center from 12:30-2:30
Thursday July 25th – Swim to Survive Challenge for Adults (and swim stroke correction) during lap swim 8:15-9:30am
Friday July 26th – Lifejacket Relays & Reach and Throw Demo at Enderby Pool at 1:45pm
Saturday July 27th – “Rescue Me” Station during the free swim from 11:15-1:15
Did you know that…
- The Enderby Pool was originally built to help prevent drowning?
- The City of Enderby is a proud supporter of the Shuswap River Ambassador Program, which provides safety information to river users?
- In partnership with the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue and Enderby & District Recreation Services, the City has installed two “Kids Don’t Float” kiosks where lifejackets are available for youth to borrow for free – one at the Belvedere Park hand launch and the other at Tuey Park?
