Mayor McCune’s Statement of Respect on Remembrance Day 2021

On November 11, 2021, we stand together to remember and respect the bravery and sacrifice of those who served our country.  They gave with distinction and honour, at great personal cost, to protect our highest values.

On behalf of the City of Enderby, I offer my deepest respect to those who have given selflessly, so that we may live in freedom.  They saw, felt, and experienced the tragedies of war and the suffering of humanity in a way that we could never imagine, without actually being there alongside them.

Remembrance Day is a solemn day in which we not only remember their courage and their loss, but also remind ourselves never to forget the terrible consequences of war.  There is an irreplaceable emptiness where those who served once stood.  But there is also the continued presence of those values that we must cherish and hold dear, for they came at the greatest of consequence.

At 11am on November 11, 2021, please take two minutes of silence to recognize those who sacrificed so that we may live in freedom.  May those two minutes be an opportunity to remind yourself, always, “Lest we forget.”
