The City of Enderby is monitoring for flood conditions and encourages residents who may live in flood-prone areas to take advance measures to protect their property. There are no closures or orders at this time.
As of June 10, 2022, at the upstream hydrometric gauge, the Shuswap River height is 4.1m and is flowing at 326m3/second. While this flow rate is only slightly above the true average (mean) for this time of year, the snow basin index is showing a relatively high value for this time of year. When high snowpack levels are maintained deeper into summer, there is greater risk of rain and heat events increasing the melt rate in higher elevations. In turn, this increases the potential for the Shuswap River to increase its level relatively quickly.
Steady precipitation mixed with warmer temperatures are expected to drive the Shuswap River to an early peak on June 14, 2022 before receding slightly, subject to a change in anticipated weather. The June 14, 2022 early peak is forecast to hit 383.8m3/second.
If your property is at-risk of flooding, please take advance measures to protect it. Sand and sandbags are available for free at the Public Works Yard at 2308 McGowan Avenue – please bring your own shovel.
